Lena Guberman

Lena Guberman, a sculptor, illustrator and concept artist, was born in 1978 in Brest on the border of Belarus and Poland, began studying art at the age of 5.
After graduating from the visual communication department at Bezalel, her main engagement was illustration.
Lena won 3 awards from the Israel Museum for illustrating books. Her most significant project is art direction for Ari Folman’s 2021 film “Where is Anne Frankā€.
As an illustrator she felt the lack of volume in her work, which she found in sculpture. In her works she dives into childhood memories and tries to recreate autobiographical events that blend in her memory with imagination.
Her works deal with intergenerational relationships, childhood and femininity, exposure and concealment.
Her works feature an interaction between sculpture and painting, as in illustrated literature where text and images complement each other, the two-dimensional images clarify or contradict the meaning of her sculpted objects.
