Arik Ben Simon

“If color is a fraction of light, then fire is light breaking free.”

Arik Ben Simon creates his own canvases from charred wood, drawing inspiration from the ancient Japanese technique of Yakisugi. For him, burning is an act of organic chaos, raw and unpredictable, followed by the introduction of geometric forms that impose order. This dialogue between destruction and creation reflects his desire to bring structure into a chaotic world.

Influenced by psychedelic experiences, Ben Simon perceives solid matter as fluid and malleable, like bubbles that can be compressed and reshaped. His works explore abstraction, minimalism, and the tension between material and form, inviting viewers into moments of reflection, calm, and emotional depth. Ben Simon believes that art should express essential emotions and inner states rather than mirror external reality, and through this belief his works unfold as both a meditation on chaos and order and a story of resilience and transformation.
