Printmaking is the heart of my practice. I discovered this language during my BFA. My sculpture studies allowed me a rich and thorough material exploration. So, when I began working in print I was not enamored with images. Instead I sought to explore the different materials and their qualities.      

After graduating, I began mastering the craft. In it, I found an answer to many of my earlier forays, including jewelry, photography and sculpture.  Learning all the expertise myself, through available sources and hard work, in 2017 I founded Studio Shopen. 

In my work, I choose to employ a monochromatic color palette consisting of black, blue and white. This is a conscious choice in order to emphasize the materiality of the: plate, line, paper, color.

Printmaking has a predefined pace, technical routines and motions. These grant me entry into a meditative world of lines and surfaces, through which I can access my own subconscious, harvesting images from fragments of childhood memories. In my childhood I suffered from Insomnia and respiratory issues. In summer I used to spend my nights outside stargazing.  During winter, I would lay awake and wander in my imagination, revisiting structures now quiet and empty. Today, my chosen imagery is taken from these early days, of sleepless nights, local monuments and rural scenery, mixed in my memories into a barren dreamscape devoid of human life. Things which are not what they seem, but are instead a fragment of a faded memory.
