Adi T. Hoffman
I am a painter and a multidisciplinary artist. My recent works explore the fleeting nature of the human body, intertwining traditional vanitas symbolism with contemporary elements like medical devices, fitness equipment, and other modern artifacts. This interplay prompts reflections on identity, the human condition, and the impermanence of life, while also engaging with ideas of body extensions and hybridity.
Employing diverse techniques—ranging from oil, acrylic, and industrial paint to charcoal, collage, and digital processes such as scanning—I also experiment with three-dimensional structures, creating laser-cut forms from galvanized steel. My practice begins with quick sketches drawn from observation, which I then transform into large, expressive paintings that retain the essence of the initial drawing.
My creative process is a balance of spontaneous physical engagement with the medium and thoughtful analysis. This blend of intuitive painting, rigorous editing, and conceptual exploration allows me to continually discover and refine my work. By preserving the raw energy of the sketch in my paintings, I strive to evoke both the transient and enduring aspects of the body.
