Hila Alon
“HOME JEWELRY”
-THE HOUSE WEARS JEWELRY-
“HOME JEWELRY” Extract The object from its eccepted definition.
Hila Alon offers a fresh perspective on the concept of jewelry, its characteristics, and our relationship with it. She expands its scope from the individual dimension to the realm of public spaces.
“HOME JEWELRY” expresses a reference to proportion, emphasizing the “golden ratio.” This concept, both in its definition and Terminologically, serves as a guiding principle for the object. It’s reflected in the exposed golden, color of the jewelry, the relationships formed between elements, and their numerical expression.
“HOME JEWELRY” are presented as ancient gold jewelry, like an archaeological find. Gold, being a pure material, has maintained its color and properties, while its surrounding casing has weathered, rusted, and aged.
“HOME JEWELRY” combines Hila Alon’s two professional worlds, which are also her two great passions: Goldsmith and jewelry designer, and architecture and interior design. In her works, she sees each reflected in the other.
Hila creates and lives in Mazkeret Batya, with her three children and her husband.
She is the owner of “HILA ALON STUDIO”, for over 20 years.
Her studies and training are as a multidisciplinary designer.
Technique: In her “HOME JEWELRY” works, Hila uses a controlled rusting process. She monitors the steel’s oxidation over several days until she achieves the desired result. At that precise moment, she halts the rusting process using oils.
The steel is then cut according to the chosen pattern. Each piece is composed of three layers: the top and bottom layers are made of rusted steel, while the middle layer is made of brass plate. These three layers are joined together using connectors and welding.
Materials: Steel and brass.
