Oren Loloi
Born in Israel in 1977. Oren lived overseas and went to school and university in Milan and New York City before returning to Israel in 2009. He has been living in Tel Aviv ever since. Oren studied painting at the Art Students League of New York where he took a self-directed approach to learning. His major influence in learning to paint is from the artist Cornelia Foss who is one of the Painterly Realists of the Hamptons. Edward Hopper and Winslow Homer also make up a large portion of Oren visual vocabulary. Oren’s approach to painting is to create imagery filled with mystery and awe.
Often including unrecognizable figures who look away from the viewer and instead of representing any individual they function to amplify the feeling in the scene. They are active participants within the picture plane, looking into the same scenery laid out in front of the viewer. His handling of paint is loose and painterly with visible brushstrokes and a tactile surface to his artworks. Oren’s work evokes feelings that go beyond spoken words. He reveals serene scenes where the viewer is invited to contemplate their place in the natural world and within the passage of time and the tapestry of memory.
