Iris Fueredi

Iris has a bachelor’s degree in design from the Holon Institute of Technology (HIT) and a master’s degree in the art history department, Tel Aviv University.

She creates sculptures from industrial iron (steel) and stainless steel.

Iris Fueredi’s iron works deal with figurative subjects. The creation of the figurative image in iron – a raw material that comes in the form of plates and rods – requires working with a method of construction and connections of the different parts of the sculpture, while defining the volume of the sculpture. The resulting image is airy, blends in space, and necessarily requires a great deal of abstraction.

As a result of the new and different definition of the volume, the viewer is tasked with excessive involvement and “decoding action”. Reading the statue requires spatial perception, observation and imagination.

The series of works called Attitude deals with exactly that – the search for a way to represent the human face using the unique characteristics of iron. This search brings the work in this material to the limit of ability – the meeting of the industrial material with the organic-spiritual.

In her work, the sculptor aims to give these images depth and expressive complexity. The inspiration for the various works comes from existing characters or feelings that arise and accompany her in recent years, and especially during the Coronavirus period. Other images in this series evoke a lighter sense of smile and humor.
