Ilya Gefter

Painter, art educator and founder of an art school. Born in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Gefter studied art in the United States and Italy, and now lives and works in Tel Aviv, Israel.

His main practice is in turning the white canvas into an expression tool for visual sensations.

His professional activities include lecturing and writing about art, teaching drawing and painting, and mediating the encounters between art and community. For Gefter, Painting is an essential activity of giving visual form to human experiences using the material language of line and color. The painting path is inseparable from the human transition in life. His works are responses to what he sees, feels and remembers. In his paintings Gefter communicates visually – that which can be felt and seen, but remains below the surface in a routine encounter with reality. Gefter has participated in exhibitions such as Stone Tower Gallery in the USA, Rothschild Art Gallery in Tel Aviv Israel, Leonardo Gallery in Canada, and many others.
